On today's show we're doing a little investigation and repair into the crazy taxi , or ground handling of the 1.5M wingspan AVIOS Spitfire RC Airplane .
As you'll see from the test footage , it didn't well at first . LOL .
The problem turned out to be caused by the "toe in " angle of the main landing gear wheels . This induced a scrubbing sideways effect instead of rolling smoothly and was extremely noticeable on grippy surfaces like asphalt .
IMO the landing gear was not installed correctly , because when I reversed the struts from left to right , the problem IMMEDIATELY went away . I explain the details with some close ups . The plane taxis , rolls and turns very smoothly now , as it should .
If you have this airplane , I'd like to hear from you . Positive or negative . Mistakes can happen on assembly lines , I'm 100 % sure MINE had an unacceptable problem , out of the box with the way the wheels rolled . Maybe it's a one of . Maybe there's others that have this problem IDK ? , if they're on grass , or worn a bit , or if it's not AS BAD . Your plane may be fine .
Even with them scrubbing a bit , I believe the inertia of such a large rc plane may overcome the issue demonstrated when landing or on take off .
Again , IDK , but I wasn't going to take the chance with such a fantastic plane .
Let me know what you think ?
I'm all ready to maiden this now and I also have a short video already made , coming after , going over a few pros and cons , assembly tips and set up .
Thanks for watching and commenting .
