Progress reporting. Ugh.
You might not like writing business progress reports. I can understand why! Progress reports are one of those parts of work that you might not think much about. However, reporting is very important, and progress reports can accomplish a LOT for your organization when given some thought!
That's why today I'm showing you how to write a simple, straightforward, and efficient business progress report via email that will keep everyone in your organization informed about what's new, what's needing help, and where the organization is going.
Remember: the goal here is that you want someone to be able to read this progress report email in 3-5 minutes. You can send these once a week, or even once every few weeks.
Here are the simple steps detailed in today's video! In your email, each of these sections will have 3-5 bullet points:
1) Share accomplishments. Share achievements and recent wins. Use data to back it up!
2) Provide insights. This is the "heads up" section. These things should be on the team's radar but aren't critical.. yet!
3) High-fives! Section for acknowledging specific individuals and teams who have done well recently! Give kudos where kudos is due.
4) Concerns. Similar to the insights section, these are things that are actually growing concerns. Team issues, alarming trends, and other early warning signs. (This can act as an insurance policy as well because it shows no one is ignoring the issues.)
5) Next steps. What are the immediate next steps based on the above sections? What's getting fixed, what can they look forward to?
Pro tip: Include a SINGLE slide if there is data you think the recipients need to know. 4 core data slots should do it- keep it simple and include only the most important data they need!
