Spotless Giraffe | Giraffe without spots -
There’s a amazing animal on the scene at a Tennessee zoo.
She doesn’t have a name yet, but she’s already made a big splash among her herd – she’s a giraffe without patches.
The 6-foot wonder was born sans spots on July 31 at Bright’s Zoo, a privately owned facility in Limestone, and made her public debut this month. The calf is a reticulated giraffe, one of four giraffe species.
The word “reticulated” refers to the giraffe’s network of polygonal brown spots, broken up by veins of creamy off-white, according to the Denver Zoo. The spots function primarily as camouflage in the savannas of northern Kenya where they live and graze.
Black Giraffes -
Black Giraffes are extremely rare. They are reported in the savanna forest of Africa as well as in some zoos. The whole body of the black giraffe is not black. Only the spots on the body are black. In 2008, a woman killed a black giraffe in Africa and celebrated it.
Black color occurs when the amount of melanin in the body increases.
White Giraffes -
Two extremely rare white giraffes have been killed by poachers in north-eastern Kenya.
Rangers had found the carcasses of the female and her calf in a village in north-eastern Kenya's Garissa County.
A third white giraffe is still alive. It is thought to be the only remaining one in the world. Their white appearance is due to a rare condition called leucism, which causes skin cells to have no pigmentation.
News of the white giraffes spread across the world after they were photographed in 2017.
