This video will try and explain what is happening inside of a priority flow control valve using an industrial valve that has been cutaway. While many of the valves used in mobile equipment use a cartridge style valve, the basic operating principles are the same. This valve is common to see in a steering circuit to ensure consistent speed of operation of the steering for the operator regardless of steering pump wear. The operator likely won't notice pump wear because of this valve until the pump is wore to the point of replacement. This valve can be used in any hydraulic circuit that requires priority flow from a pump.
