Is this the World's Oldest Message in a Bottle? Recently, a team of student archaeologists made an astonishing discovery while excavating an ancient Gaulish village near the town of Eu in northern France.
Hidden inside a clay pot, they found a small glass bottle resembling an old vial, typically used for carrying smelling salts. Inside the bottle was a rolled-up paper, tied with string. This paper contained a message written nearly 200 years ago by a 19th-century archaeologist named P.J. Féret. This message was sealed and left for someone—perhaps archaeologists of the future—to find. The find was not only an incredible link to the past but also a fascinating look at how early archaeologists worked and thought.
