The plight of the women refugees of the former Yugoslavia is one
of the issues under discussion at the UN Women's Conference in
Beijing. The conference will study the special problems of these
women, and will seek to have rapists and sex attackers prosecuted
as war criminals. In Zenica, Bosnia, a German based charity
has set up a medical and psychological counselling clinic. 200
traumatised women have lived at the clinic since it opened in
1993. In Belgrade, the Japanese have set up a rehabilitation
centre for older women.
