Linked In isn't just a place for you to put your resume online. It's 2021 LinkedIn is a super powerful social network and if you're really serious about getting that job you want, it's time to increase your LinkedIn presence. Here at Yodo1, we're always searching for top talent to hire, and so today I want to share with you 5 tips on what we're always looking for in applications and profiles.
Tip #1: Having Professional Photo and Header
Having a high quality photo of yourself is essential. Please don't use a photo of your cat or anything else, it needs to clearly show you; your face. This is your chance to show off your professional brand and show to companies why they would want to meet you and potentially work with you in the future. This means you should have good lighting and good framing, and a genuine smile on your face.
Most of your profile is going to be text, so your header photo is your chance to be creative. You can use eye catching colours, or you can choose a picture of your home town. Whatever it may be, make sure that it fits in the dimensions of a Linked In header photo.
Tip #2: Create a custom URL
This is like the gateway to your online business card. You wouldn't be giving out the URL to your YouTube channel if it was youtube.com /abc12654 and a bunch of other random letters and number would you? Probably not, because it's just not memorable and you'll be way too hard to find. Make sure that your LinkedIn URL is similar to your name or at least your email address. Keep it short and simple.
Tip #3: Make sure all of your information is filled in
This includes your headline, location and about section. What do you want professionals and recruiters to know about you? What are you currently doing, or what are you doing next and why? Make sure you show off your passion and achievements so that others can see what value you can bring to the table. Also, try to put in more keywords into your About section. For example, if you're looking for a a job as a Game Developer, you can type in Game Developement inro your About section. That way, your keywords will make you more searchable, and then the appropriate recruited can find you on LinkedIn.
Tip #4: Let recruiters know that you're open to finding a new job
Let us know more information and add it to your profile. Fill in the details such as location and whether or not you're open to remote work. This information is important for companies such as Yodo1, where everyone is working remotely. Ticking this box means that you're open to a company culture that relies on your trust and ability to work from anywhere in the world.
Tip #5: Share your personal brand on LinkedIn
Have you been actively sharing your thoughts? Have you been sharing articles or creating your own content on things that interest you, whether thats in gaming or self development? Well, when a hiring manager sees that you're a part of the community, or that your values align with the company, that's where you're really going to stand out above the rest. You're making it easier for a recruiter to see whether or not you're the kind of person that they want in the company.
I hope these 5 tips helped with you and your LinkedIn journey. If they did, please give this video a like and make sure you're following Yodo1 on YouTube and LinkedIn, whether you're into gaming or remote work life, we have a lot of content coming up, so see you in the next video!
