Taking online surveys for money is an excellent side hustle idea. Surveys allow you to make money easily from home, without investment, or needing to come up with a business idea. You can even do surveys at work to increase your salary. I can't think of a more versatile earning method than that.
Surveys are also a valuable income source for people who work part-time or are self-employed, and need extra side income to help with the cost of living crisis. I can tell you from experience that surveys are a great way to make money as a student, as I used them myself to help with grocery costs. If someone was looking for ways to earn money as a teenager, then this would be one of the first earning methods I would recommend.
While there is a lot of PayPal money and Amazon gift cards to be made from doing paid surveys online, they can also be a source of incredible frustration unless you know how to qualify for them.
There is a massive problem with the survey industry that market researchers don't want to address. Surveys only pay participants for their time if they happen to match the target demographic of the questionnaire. If the profile of the participant is not an exactly what the researchers are looking for, they will be kicked out of the survey halfway through, without being paid. The respondent will not know if they are a good match for the survey until they have already invested time and effort passing security checks and filling in demographic information.
