Budget 2023 is being developed against a volatile economic backdrop. Continuing supply-side issues are contributing in part to the global increase in inflation, which in turn increases the likelihood of recession in a number of major economies. Short-term measures are vital to ease the burden on those struggling to cope with higher costs but while there are many immediate demands on the public purse, the Government must also retain its focus on long-term initiatives—such as housing and climate action, for example—to ensure the continued resilience of the Irish economy and meet our international obligations. With that in mind, what measures can we expect from the Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe T.D.?
