Government withdraws funding for gifted children.
The minister of education today announced that funding would no longer be available for schools for children of exceptional intellectual ability. " We feel that priority should be given to socially disadvantaged children, rather than to those who are likely to succeed in any case", he said.
Jane Harris, Head teacher of one of the affected schools, said "It is a tragic decision. Gifted children cannot realise their full potential without the challenge and support we provide, they are our country's future and we can't afford to let them down."

Supporting socially disadvantaged children
This essay was written by Roland Simon
I understand the point of the head teacher’s concern over the latest government withdrawal of funding for gifted rich children, but I wholeheartedly agree with the minister of education’s decision ABOUT supporting socially disadvantaged children.
First of all, although I am fully aware THAT every child deserves the best education regardless of social status and THEIR standard of living; privileged children do not need any help from the state whatsoever. STUDENTS FROM well-off backgroundS are highly likely to achieve their aims FOR many different REASONS. Their prominent and affluent parents MAY be able to pull a few strings if their children need a better grade or the best position in a prestigious company. It will come as no surprise to you that who you know is more important than what you know and this adage is able to jolt us OUT OF OUR COMPLACENCY AND HELPS US to realise the enormous discrepancIES in our society. Their abundant resources and precious connections are considered as a plum ADVANTAGE, which helps them to overcome any obstacles in life. They have the wherewithal to fulfil their ambitions, whatever they aspire to be.
Secondly, teachers have been invariably in favour of pestering deEp pocketed students at the expense of the less well-off. Meanwhile they often undermine poorer pupils’ efforts, NO MATTER THE desperate ATTEMPTS THEY MAY MAKE TO SUCCEDE. Low income students easily succumb to inertia WHEN TRYING TO COMBINE studying and socialising. It goes without saying that theIR inability TO COMPETE ON A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD can exacerbate their POOR performance IN THE classroom. A proper education and a decent job ARE akin to an unassailable castle for them. Many rough diamonds have UNIMPORTANT JOBS which are NOT COMMESUARE with their flair and knowledge.
In conclusion, I am AN advocate of the idea of helping children ECONOMICALLY, I can entirely go along with the minister of education'S decision. The path to success has already been paved for rich students.
