Nabeel Abraham has devoted his life’s work to the study of Arab Detroit and Arab Americans generally. His writing on various aspects of the community span four decades. He coedited, two volumes of the Arab Detroit series, as well as a forthcoming volume titled, Hadha Baladuna of creative writing (Wayne State University Press). In addition to other collections, Abraham has contributed numerous essays in various journals, books, and encyclopedias. Abraham taught anthropology at Henry Ford College in Dearborn, Michigan, for three decades, where he also directed the Honors Program until his retirement in 2013. Abraham served as executive director of the Association of Arab American University Graduates, Inc., from 1979 to 1980. He also established the Detroit Regional Office of the ADC, serving as its local spokesman and adviser from 1980 to 1985. Abraham’s experiences growing up in Detroit starting in the 1950s provides much of the material on which he draws for his current work.
