Today on our 1986 Chevrolet Silverado CK Series pickup, we will be taking a look at and installing the Western Phase Sure Step rear bumper with custom installation kit. This will be part number 21002-92230. This sturdy steel replacement bumper has a non slip pad along the top to add a sure grip for getting in and our of your truck bed, with built in hitch holes that offer three different mounting locations and an eight thousand pound towing capacity, with an eight hundred tongue weight rating. Now the hitch ball hole diameter is going to be around one inch. Just add a hitch ball, it will be sold separately and you're ready to tow. The chrome plating is going to add style and resist rust, while adding utility and a rugged good look to your vehicle.
License plate lights wire into your running lights, that are already in your vehicle. Now on this particular vehicle, the customer wants to get a step back on the back side of the vehicle and get rid of the Blazer bumper that he had put on from the after market accessories. Now, another reason is that it is bent and those brackets are kind of out of whack here on the back side. We're going to take off the brackets and remove the rear bumper. Put new brackets and hardware in place, along with our new bumper. We're going to need to remove these two bolts, securing the back bumper bracket.
We'll lube them up. We'll spray a little lubricant on the other side to help them come out. We'll go ahead and get a strap and secure our bumper. That way if it does decide to fall off on it's own, it isn't going to go too far under it's own weight. Go ahead and hold the bumper while we tap out the bolts on each side.
Once we have the bolts removed, we can go ahead and lower down the bumper. Now we're going to go ahead and place our bracket on. Now our left side, our driver's side bracket, it's going to read 223 and then left. We're going to place it in the second hole here with our half inch bolt and flat washer, coming from the outside. Then in the big groove here, the same way. On the backside, we'll add our lock washer and our nut.
Let's go ahead and put on our passenger's side. Now with our outer brackets in place, we're ready to put our bumper up. We'll go ahead and get an extra set of hands to help us hold it up so we can put in our hardware. Now those bolts going through that outer bracket, is going to be the same as what we used in the frame, with that flat washer and bolt, and a lock washer and a nut on the backside. Now we're just going to use a pole stand underneath the backside of the bumper to hold it level, while we tighten everything down. We can always use a level too, on the backside, making sure we're going to be straight up and down. All right, with our bumper nice and level, we'll go ahead and tighten down our brackets. Start with the ones here on the frame. Make sure we're still level. Then we can go ahead and tighten down the one securing our bumper to the brackets. We'll go ahead and torque it down to the manufacturer's specifications. Now we can go ahead and put our license plate lights into place. Notice the shape here is going to match up with the shape on the side of the bumper. Place it in and take our clip on the backside and clip it in. Now we'll take our two light bulb holders and place our light bulbs in. Press down firmly. We'll take them and we'll plug them into the back. Then we can wire them up. When placing it in, you'll see the prongs on the side will match up to the cutouts on the inside of the lens. Press it in and twist. It will be locked in then. Now on this vehicle it does have quite a mess of wires going on. We did check our wires with our taillight. Our taillights are going to be running on that brown wire coming off of the four pull. We're going to quick splice into that for our power going to our license plate lights. Then our negative will be the ground coming off of our four pull as well. Now we'll run our wires back to connect to our power and ground, coming off of our four pull. We'll take those quick splice connectors, provided in the kit and connect them on. Then we'll crimp it down and then close the cover. Taping it off will also ensure that we don't get any dirt, debris or water inside of our connections. We'll take our wires and secure them up to the existing wire loom here on the back of the vehicle. Now another great feature about this, is it's going to come with the mount to mount up your license plate. Simply press them in and we can take our provided screws and screw in our license plate. Let's go ahead and turn on our headlights so we can ensure our license plate lights are on. Th
