And so continues the Terunofuji Era! Before the start of the basho, the sumo community seemed to have an alarming amount of doubt in the return of their Yokozuna, turning to Yokozuna-to-be Kirishima and now Ozeki Kotonowaka as obvious choices for the Yusho...and I will admit, the loss to Wakamotoharu on Day 2 caused even me to worry, but wow, every bit of doubt was unfounded. These last two championships of his have been from what were deemed "comeback" bashos, and yet both occasions have seen him dominate the competition, including all the young talent. Not Kirishima, Hoshoryu or Kotonowaka, who will be the three Ozeki, have ever beaten him! Not once! He plays the role of Yokozuna perfectly, and his presence changes the dynamic of the whole basho. I consider myself a huge Teru fan, and am all too happy to see him take the cup again and move one step away from his goal of double digits! Memorable bouts this time around were with Onosato- the ultimate in both youth vs old guard and "big man" sumo, Tobizaru- a shove and a glare that had me out of my seat, revenge for July indeed, and Kirishima- don't get me wrong, Kiri is superb, but THIS is the power of a Yokozuna. Cheers!
