Thank you for watching Zimbolé
Zimbolé is part of a video series designed to help music teachers and learners better understand and communicate through music. For teachers, we hope these videos can serve as instructional materials in your classes. For learners, we hope that you also watch these videos on your own and find your own ways to learn and master these songs.
Our belief is that music is learned through the study of individual songs and compositions. Each song holds its own unique musical challenges. Therefore, the more you learn, the better you will become at overcoming these musical challenges, and the stronger you will become as a musician.
We are constantly adding more videos, so if you want to stay in the loop, please subscribe!
Zimbolé is a folk song from Africia (we believe it’s from South Africa, but we’re not entirely sure). What makes Zimbolé song so great is that it’s a simple, but very energetic song that everyone can sing and perform together. Our research has suggested that the word “zimbole” means ‘Peace’- but we’re also not entirely sure of that translation either. But regardless, our song video for Zimbolé is a great way to get students performing on multiple instruments while singing and clapping. Our arrangement recommends that students clap on the up beat, and not on the sound ‘zim’. We also hope that students maintain a steady tempo on the xylophones and maintain a clear and consistent pattern on the drums- and of course we home that singers perform Zimbolé with such excitement that our drums and xylophones will want to speed up (even though they shouldn’t.) We hope you like it!!!
