The UN peacekeeping force in Sudan's Darfur region has suffered its worst-ever losses. Seven peacekeepers have been killed and 17 others injured in an ambush near their base. The joint African Union-UN force, dubbed UNAMID, has been operating in Darfur since July 2007.
