Normal bleeding is quite good for properties of concrete as it
enhances the workability of concrete.
Bleeding replaces the water lost by evaporation and prevents the surface from drying quickly before it has attained sufficient strength to resist cracking.
Bleeding of concrete
Bleeding in concrete is consist also different types such as normal bleeding associated with a uniform seepage of water over the top surface of the freshly mixed concrete structures that is good and it enhances the Workability of concrete and another type channel bleeding associated with to water rising through particular paths that is very harmful to construction of structures.
Causes of Bleeding
1.Segregation
2.High water to cement ratios
3.Higher values of Fineness modulus
4.Low cement content (low fine particle of cement )
5.Depth of placed concrete
Effects Of Bleeding
Due to bleeding concrete loses its homogeneity.
Bleeding is responsible for causing permeability in concrete.
Bleeding in concrete finally formed laitance in top surface.
In the process of bleeding the accumulation of water creates a water voids and reduces bond between the aggregate and cement paste.
Strength and resistance of concrete is decreases.
Constituents of concrete and reinforcement between layers is occurring poor bond formation.
Methods Of Reducing Bleeding
Controlling the water cement ratio, use slump value mix according to structure design of concrete due to reduced the bleeding in concrete.
Providing the finer grading of fine aggregates, used according to require in design mix structure associated with properly mixed proportion.
Using more finely ground cement .
The add air entraining agents should be controlled the bleeding.
Controlling compaction.
Vibrating concrete for a sufficient time .
Removing the laitance fully before pouring the next lift
Uniform, complete mixing and proper proportioning.
