It has been successfully defused the 250-kilogram World War II bomb found in Berlin three weeks ago, according to a police spokeswoman who verified the success early on Sunday evening.

Approximately 15,000 neighborhood inhabitants were requested to leave their houses for their own protection while the device was being evacuated from the place where it was found at Berlin's Jewish Hospital. After the bomb is removed, the locals will be able to return home.



The effort to defuse the device was overseen by police explosives specialists. Since the early hours of Sunday morning, a 500-metre exclusion zone has been in place surrounding the site.
