Dyslexia at Oxford is a visual film and photography project about dyslexia in conversation with students, alumni, staff, tutors, and researchers at both The University of Oxford, Oxford Brookes University and members of the local community.
Through a series of 21 conversations, it nuances the narrative around dyslexia, exploring the strengths and challenges of being neurodiverse. Many of the stories point to a structural lack of inclusion in education and access to information about dyslexia and neurodiversity more widely.
This project celebrates our different ways of thinking, the stronger teams that can be created and the benefit to society if difference is valued, supported and seen as part of what makes us human. Released alongside the film will be extended cuts of the interviews, with portraits of the speakers and further resources.
Created by Olivia Williamson in collaboration with Alda Porter, Alex and Kitty Tait, Andrew Day, Bridie Esther, Clare Roberts, Deshna Sha, Eddie Maza, Genevieve Nielson, Graeme Hughes, James Sheppard, John Stein, Kate West, Katherine Noren, Leslie Dickson-Tetteh, Louise Gallagher, Marion Frostick, Michelle, Richard Auburn, Ryan Mcnamee, Sara Middleton, Sarah Simblet, Vance Tan and Victoria McGuinness.
Special thanks to speakers & Oxford Sparks for contributing visual material and to Jules Williamson for mentorship at every stage of the video project. The picture book Alda reads from is ‘All the Ways to be Smart’ by Davina Bell. In partnership with The University of Oxford's Disability Advisory Service, supported by TORCH as part of the Humanities Cultural Programme.
