Former Russian commander Igor Girkin has claimed that a "mutiny" by the Wagner Group and its leader Yevgeny Prigozhin is on the cards. Girkin, a former commander of separatist forces in the Donbas region, made the claim just days after the Wagner group withdrew from Bakhmut. Girkin ascribed the Wagner withdrawal from Bakhmut to Prigozhin’s alleged need to gather forces for a ‘mutiny’ against Putin. Girkin also warned that “if Russia misses the upcoming counter-offensive, the political situation in the country may become unrecognisable”.
