In this video, Sarah is teaching you how to make Floating Christmas Drawings!
Here is what you need:
🎨 Dry-erase markers
🎨 Shallow tray or plate
🎨 Cup
🎨 Water
🎨 Rubbing alcohol
Make your drawing with a dry-erase marker on a plate and let it dry for a couple of seconds. Use a dry finger to wipe across the drawing and if it remains, pour enough water onto the plate to cover the drawing. Wait and observe!
✨What’s the Science✨
Did you make your drawings float? When you poured water on your drawing you should have observed it magically detach and rise to the water’s surface. This happens because dry-erase markers contain an oily silicone polymer which prevents them from sticking to a surface. In this case, it allows the water to slip underneath your drawing. As the ink is lighter than water, it can float!
