49 patients at the Coast General Hospital were discharged after the county government cleared their bills amounting to 2.1 million shillings. Mombasa governor Hassan Joho, who paid the outstanding amount, said he wanted the patients to spend time with their families during the New Year festivities. These patients were unable to raise the money to pay and therefore could not be discharged. The governor says the county will continue to equip medical facilities within the county to improve access to health care for all.
