Pepadu was not prepared in advance and participants were randomly selected from the crowd who witnessed the event. Spectators can also apply as cohesive. Pepadu will face each other while swinging the braid towards the opponent, as if whipping. Parts of the body that may be subjected to whipping are the head, shoulders and back, but the lower part of the legs (thighs) is not allowed. Other Pepadu can parry attacks using ende and counter attacks in the same way. The whipping action made the atmosphere tense and mixed with excitement. In addition, Peresean is accompanied by musical accompaniment consisting of gongs, drums, kirik, cymbals, flutes and kanjars so that the atmosphere becomes lively. The pair will stop the match when one of the pepadu is injured or bleeding. If during the match no one was injured, then Peresean will continue until the fifth round, subject to initial agreement. Then, the pack will see who has the least amount of damage, then he is the winner. Even though they had fought fiercely, the pepadu had to hug and forgive each other. This is the value that Peresean wants to show, namely patience and humility and mutual respect for one another.
Peresean adalah pertarungan antara dua lelaki yang bersenjatakan tongkat rotan (penjalin) dan berperisai kulit kerbau yang tebal dan keras (perisai disebut ende). Tradisi ini dilakukan oleh masyarakat suku Sasak, Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat, Indonesia.Peresean termasuk dalam seni tari daerah Lombok. Petarung dalam Peresean biasanya disebut pepadu dan wasit disebut pakembar.
