I really needed to relax tonight, so I thought I'd go to the Beach, IN VR! Utilizing combination of the new 'Water Plugin', the new free Marketplace 'Coral/Ocean Floor Assets, and Flux Fluid Simulation Tool and I do a little world building to test the state of Unreal Engine VR EDITOR, ...
If ONLY they hadn't Deprecated it in 5.2 !!!
I recompiled the VR Editor source (with some advice from the GPT4 Code Interpreter plugin) and I got it working! It only works witht he Github Source Build of 5.3 and I have to use a keyboard to Undo...
I wonder why they deprecated it? I have spent more hours in Unreal Editor than any game in the last few years (except maybe heavily Modded Skyrim VR...)
I usually make what I can by starting a level in 4.25 (in order to the last really good version of VR Editor, with working Undo, Cloning and Touring modes etc. Keyframing and Sequence Tools,,.
Then I just migrate to my or 5.2 project. But I am very happy to have gotten it working natively in 5.3! I tihkn I may be the only person on Earth this evening with VR Editor working in Unreal Engine 5.3
They abandoned the VR community just when we needed them most.
What's up with that?
I am also creating my own much more intuitive Physics Sandbox Based VR Editor (and Sequencer), that lets you have a full IK body, you feel more connected to the world than w/ floating hands. Everything is Physics based so it is like being in the real world. (ahem,. BUT sans limitations...)
In my Physics VR Editor, you can reach out and pose a Skeletal Mesh using joint limitaion rules and Physics componets engaged and simulating. Grabs a Characters limb, Pulls a Hand, Jiggle a .. Ponytail,. Use an external 'lookt at ' object and change (and animate) eye direction, h(There is no greater way to get proper eye 'line of sight' in a Cut-Scene Previs, than to set it up in Stereoscopic 3D,.. ) Animating all these movements over time using a Modular Slider Bar. A little like animating like Clay.
Smart Clay?
Like a futuristic Ray Harryhausen, using a form of 'Physics based stop motion' animation with not 'Clay' but Higly Complex Skeletal Mesh, even Metahumans!)
The most fun I have had in years is working in VR Editor. I am Reginald Barclay or Geordi LaForge: Holodeck Programmer!
