AUTOMOTIVE ART OF ALAN FEARNLEY: Limited Edition
ALAN FEARNLEY Book Number: 79248 Product format: Hardback
Leather bound with leather slipcase, here is a real collector's edition in limited supply. With a luxurious feel, slip out this landscape volume, sit back in the comfort of your armchair and smell the leather, almost as if you are inside one of the stylish classic cars depicted in these 80 paintings. The scenes vary from an evening on the Strand in front of the Gaiety Theatre with a red V12 Lagonda Drophead, to Monaco 1956, with Stirling Moss leading this race from flag to flag. Fearnley has pictured the cars streaming away from the start in front of the beautiful old Monégasque townscape. Moss leads in his works Maserati 250F from the Lancia-Ferrari, followed by the Vanwall. You really feel the speed. In contrast is a beautiful Tuscan summer scene featuring a Ferrari SWB California Spyder. C-D-and E-type Jaguars he admits are difficult cars to paint and draw because of the very subtle changes of shape in the bonnet and wing. Stirling Moss braked a fraction late from his 150 mph approach in the town of Padova and bounced off the straw bales - beautifully depicted, full of colour and speed. There are sentimental old men with walking sticks and dogs and leather crash helmets, fast selling paintings recognisable from posters and cards, Williams in the Monaco pits' 29, horse riders, couples by the riverside in the summer with their beautiful sports cars parked alongside and the atmospheric Last Customer and Last Train plus some entertainment scenes like Concert in St Marks and Cotton Club, just to prove that this artist has more talent than just the cars he adores. Fearnley has the loose style of John Yardley, with dappled colour and expressionism and use of light, and also some of the romance of Jack Vettriano, and broody use of nightfall. 80 stunning paintings in colour, 146pp. 12" x 10".
