Greetings and welcome to the Peace Operations Training Institute distance training course "Operational Logistical Support of UN Peacekeeping Missions: Intermediate Logistics Course". My name is Don Leslie, and I am the author of this course. Peacekeeping operations require varying degrees of logistics support dependent upon the size and complexity of the mission. Operational logistics covers a wide spectrum of support activities from supply and transportation to medical services, construction and communications. On your assignments, you may encounter mission specific variations on the logistics topics presented in this course. Forms and procedures may change, but the concepts and organizations are fairly consistent across missions. These logistical concepts and organizations will be the focus of this course.
The first two chapters introduce you to United Nations Operational Logistics planning in general, and then the following chapters delve into more detail about specific categories of operational logistics, including communications, transportation, and medical services. Each chapter outlines the fundamental procedures for that particular logistical support concept and provides the relevant chain of command. In this way, you will come to understand each of the major logistical concerns involved in the deployment of a UN mission.
If you have any questions regarding the course, please contact me via the Student-Teacher Communication Form at the URL below. Thank you for enrolling in the Peace Operations Training Institute's distance training, and I wish you every success in your studies of United Nations peacekeeping.
