In this episode of Sakul Intakul FLORAL JOURNEY, I take you to Sudaji which is in the north of Bali to see how a 'Canang', a Balinese floral offering, is made. This specific type of Canang is called 'Canang Buratwangi'.
The lovely flower vendor of the morning market of Sudaji shows us how delicate it is to make this special form of traditional art that is to be found only in Bali. Enjoy the beauty of tropical wonderland that prevails to us only on these islands of Gods.
The base of the Canang is made from Busung or young coconut leaf, carefully cut, folded, and stitched to form a small basket of heavenly foliage. Colorful flowers then fill the Canang. Flowers significantly represent Gods. Red flowers symbolise Brahma. Blue or green flowers are for Vishnu. And white flowers represent Siwa.
The Balinese uses Canang as a part of their basic offerings for Gods according to Balinese Hindu practice.
