New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih is set to be named the presidential candidate of Taiwan's main opposition Kuomintang, according to a Bloomberg report. Taiwan's legislature has passed a landmark legal amendment to expand adoption rights to same-sex couples. And Taiwan saw the most cyberattacks of any country in the first part of 2023, according to an American-Israeli software company. Also:
- Thousands of people have signed a petition calling for a four-day working week, meaning the government will be obliged to formulate a response.
- Taiwan's navy is set to commission the Yushan, the first of four domestically built amphibious support ships to be completed.
- Other new laws passed in Taiwan on Tuesday increase the penalties for fraud, kidnapping and for making and distributing deepfake images and audio.
