This week during the September Plenary session, I responded to the Strategic Dialogue on the future of EU Agriculture.
I believe the CAP was originally created to ensure stable incomes for family-run farms, but the current CAP is no longer benefiting small farmers as it should. Large agribusinesses and big corporations receive substantial subsidies, while smaller farms are burdened with complex bureaucracy and excessive red tape.
These payment schemes have created an uneven playing field, making it difficult for small farms like ours to compete. We’re facing low incomes and rising costs, leaving many of us wondering what the future holds for family farming.
As a member of the Agriculture Committee in the European Parliament, I'm committed to working to support small farms and push for the urgent reform of CAP. We need more equitable financial aid, simplified processes, and a stronger focus on sustainability that allows small farms to thrive.
