❓I love doing Tumbling Quizes on Instagram. And one of the recent questions were: Where should an athlete be looking while FINISHING a back walkover
.
This is different than having FINISHED a back walkover. Thus, the correct answer was their Toes/Feet!
.
Shout out to Coach Brittany from @myfulltimeathlete for providing such a excellent example to add to the collection. For those that like reading, here are a few reasons why:
.
✅ Allows for accurate foot placement. Not only important for landing straight but also for beam (if you happen to teach gymnastics)
.
✅ To spot toes/feet the chin needs to be tucked in, which allows athletes to keep shoulders open during the finish
.
✅ For those that want to connect their BWO to their BHS, it's again important to know when to bring the back leg to meet the 1st so the athlete can end up in the squat/athletic stance, ready for the BHS take off
.
⚠️ You'll hear some people say a "cheer" BWO is different than a "gymnastics" BWO. This is all nonsense. The foundation of GOOD tumbling techniques and habits don't change because of the sport. A walkover is a walkover. A handspring is a handspring. The only modifications I've made from previously coaching gymnasts to cheerleaders is hand and foot placement (since cheerleaders don't have to be on a beam)
