(2 Nov 2018) Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited the rescuers command post at Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta on Friday, where he is later due to inspect debris recovered from the Lion Air crash.
He was joined by Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and the Chief of the National Search and Rescue Agency, Muhammad Syaugi.
New details about the crashed Lion Air jet's previous flight have cast more doubt on the Indonesian airline's claim to have fixed technical problems as hundreds of personnel searched the sea a fifth day Friday for victims and the plane's fuselage.
The brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 plane plunged into the Java Sea early Monday, just minutes after taking off from the Indonesian capital Jakarta, killing all 189 people on board.
Data from flight-tracking websites shows both flights had highly erratic speed and altitude after takeoff, though confirmation is required from data recorded by the aircraft's "black box" flight recorders.
A team from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board including Boeing experts have joined the Indonesian investigation.
Indonesian investigators will also travel to the U.S. to meet with the designers of the new-generation Boeing jet.
More than 60 body bags containing human remains have been sent to police medical experts for identification since the search began, but as of Thursday only one victim had been identified and buried.
Families of those on board have offered their DNA for testing.
