Stop treating AI like a magic code generator that gets it right on the first shot! Here's how to actually level up your AI-assisted coding game 🚀
Challenge the first proposal of your coding assistant and ask it to double check. Do this as many times as necessary until both the assistant and you are satisfied with the reasoning and assessment. It's basically "manual chain of thought" and it works great for me for complex code changes
Also 4 essential hacks I use daily with Cursor, Windsurf & other AI coding IDEs/assistants.
👉 tell your code assistants to:
1. Be thorough & laser-focused
2. Think through all implications of code changes
3. Don't break stuff
4. Provide a game plan
BONUS: Fun idea at the end! 📚 I'm thinking about crafting something along the lines of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the GenAI Coding Universe - A Developer's Manual for Surviving AI-Assisted Coding"
Drop a 📘 in the comments if this sounds like something that would be useful for your AI coding quests. Maybe we can turn this into a crowd-sourced guide!
Super curious the hear what works for YOU! 👉 drop me a comment and share your own AI coding hacks!
