IMPORTANT WARNING:
Unless you are already well versed in Qi Gong, even if you can perform these 18 sets of movements correctly, if you do not include the internal dimensions of mind and energy in the training, you will only get the benefits of physical exercise. The videos, therefore, are not intended for self-practice, but to satisfy curiosity, and perhaps as a means of preserving for future generations what the 18 Shaolin Lohan Hands of Shaolin look like.
You would be wrong if you think that the dimensions of mind and energy are not explained here because we want to keep them secret. Even if we explain them here, many people may not believe the explanation. Even if they believe it and follow the instructions, they may not get the desired result. Worse, and this is one of the main reasons why many masters "keep the secrets", practicing advanced Qi Gong without the supervision of a master may bring serious adverse effects.
You will appreciate the warning better if you remember that what is at stake is mind and energy, the two most powerful things in the world. As an analogy, learning to swim or drive a car is safe with proper supervision. But one would not, and should not, go swimming or driving simply after reading some swimming or driving instructions.
VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Many readers have asked us about the famous 18 Lohan Hands of Shaolin. They were taught by the Great Bodhidharma in 527 CE to the monks of the Shaolin Monastery in China, when this First Patriarch of the Shaolin arts found the monks weak and often sleepy during meditation, which is the essential path to enlightenment.
The 18 Lohan Hands of Shaolin are fundamental Qi Gong exercises that can bring enormous benefits if practiced as Qi Gong. Over the years, the 18 Lohan Hands have been successfully used to promote good health, vitality, longevity, mental clarity, peak performance and spiritual joy.
But if practiced as physical exercise, which is often the case today, the practitioner will naturally only get the benefits of physical exercise. The crucial difference between Qi Gong exercise and physical exercise lies not in the external form (which may be the same for both types of exercise), but in the internal dimensions of energy and mind. If one does not know what these internal dimensions are, one is unlikely to have practiced Qi Gong, even if one has performed the external Qi Gong form for years.
In Shaolin Monastery, these 18 Lohan Hands evolved into a kungfu set called "Eighteen Lohan Fists", which constitutes the prototype of today's Shaolin Kungfu. However, the 18 Lohan Hands continued to be practiced as a Qi Gong exercise.
Because of its long history, there are many versions of the 18 Lohan Hands being taught today. This video shows the 18 Lohan Hands taught at the Shaolin Wahnam Institute ( [ Ссылка ] ).
