While editing the sound of the Merlin V12 I had the idea to simulate the sound of 4 Merlin V12s, this is the end result of that idea.

I had a few ideas how to do it but in the end I recorded my normal setup 4 times with the microphone in a different position to approximate the distance from the cockpit to each of the 4 engines, and with slightly different RPMs and random speakers assigned to each cylinder for each of the 4 "engines", then I synchronised and combined the 4 audio recordings along with the recording of a fan heater to get some prop noise in too.

I had a few ideas for showing each engine starting and accelerating then backing off to cruise RPM but it ended up being too much work.

The real thing definitely sounds better.

"takeoff" engine speed is 3000 RPM, "cruise" speed is 2650 RPM as per a few operating manuals I read.
