Our capacity to cross our foot during the stance phase of gait is influenced by the mobility of both the ankle and the great toe. If we are unable to acquire this mobility, we frequently make negative compensatory choices. A callus that has developed on the inside of your big toe, where it grinds against your shoe, may be one of the symptoms. The heel whips inward and we tumble off the inside of our toe if we are unable to come off the toe straight.
Midstance pronation is expected, but by the time we take off, we should be able to restore our foot's stability (supination). As a result, you can push off strongly and maintain appropriate alignment for the duration of the gait cycle.
