Watchman Nee accepted Jesus as his Savior AND Lord when he was 17 years old. To him, there was no difference between being saved and serving God as his new Master.
Experiencing an overwhelming love, Nee decided to live his life solely for God. He gave up his dreams, his ambitions, his desires, his future, and eventually his life for the Jesus he loved with his whole heart.
He wrote many books that have been widely read by Christians today. His books are often difficult to read because they reveal to us how shallow our own walk with God is.
In our comfortable lives, we claim to follow the Lord Jesus, but how pitiful our walks are. We will give up little before we squirm and complain about the slightest discomfort. We say we would die for our Savior, but could we really? I think most of us are like Peter before Jesus' resurrection, a disciple with good intentions but still controlled by his fears.
May we be like Peter after Jesus' resurrection, a changed man full of the Holy Spirit, a man who tradition says was crucified upside down at his own request because he deemed himself unworthy to die in the same position as his Lord.
Oh Lord, you know we love You. Fill us with the Holy Spirit that we may be bold and fearless even in the face of death. May we look only to You, as Stephen did, even as he was being stoned to death.
