The Nantahala River, located in Nantahala National Forest, is one of America's favorite whitewater rafting playgrounds. Its ideal location at the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, just a short distance from Cherokee and Bryson City, NC, makes the Nantahala River perfect for vacationers to the Smokies. The river is only 3 hours north from Atlanta, and 1.5 hours west of Asheville.
Eight miles of clear water, constant waves and swift currents make the Nantahala River a delight for friends, families and groups interested in an exhilarating introduction to whitewater rafting. Ages 7 and up, or 60 pounds and up can go on this trip. The trip takes over 3 hours and contains numerous class I and II rapids, with a class III rapid at exhilarating Nantahala Falls at the end. You have the choice of a fully guided trip with a guide in each raft or renting equipment and paddling on your own. Since the Nantahala River is a dam-controlled river, one can expect good water flows at all times of the year.
All trips include transportation to and from the river, changing rooms and hot showers. Wildwater is Southeast's pioneer rafting company, running the first commercial rafting trips in the southeast since 1971. Enjoy the best facilities, staff, equipment, and experience with Wildwater.
