Josy Verdonkschot from the Dutch Rowing Federation was one of the keynote speakers at the first Firstbeat HRV Summit.
As a top coach for the Dutch Rowing Federation, Verdonkschot was the architect behind the womens team's gold medal winning performance at the 2014 Rio Olympics.
In this video, he shares his expertise on topics of training and recovery management. He describes how he utilizes EPOC (elevated post-exercise oxygen consumption) data derived from heartbeat data to track training loads for individual athletes.
Training load monitoring is supplemented with data obtained from overnight recovery monitoring, also provided by an analysis of heartbeat data provided by Firstbeat Sports. This information can be used to inform a variety of important training decisions and becomes particularly valuable when dealing with adverse environmental conditions like altitude.
He also discusses the role of physiological monitoring as a tool for reducing risk of injury and identifying the most effective levels of training activity.
The inaugural Firstbeat HRV Summit was held April 20-21, 2017 in Helsinki, Finland.
