Hey all!
In this video, I show you how to set up your custom domain using Unbounce and Namecheap.
Regardless of what domain provider you use however, the process and steps would be the same, so follow me along here as I do this in Namecheap and you can apply it to your domain manager.
The first thing you need to do is actually buy your domain.
Head over to any domain provider, and type in the domain you want to buy.
I would suggest making it as closely related to the product you are selling as possible, because when people see the URL, and that it matches the product, they are more likely to click on your ad.
The domain you buy also doesn't need to end with ".com" - it can end with ".co", ".org" and so on.. the most important thing is to get a name similar to your product.
After you do that, click on "domains" in Unbounce on the left hand side and "add new domain".
The process is pretty straightforward and Unbounce tells you what you need to do to set the domain up.
If you don't have a website on this domain, you can easily use the "www" subdomain of your site, or really any subdomain you want, such as "blog" or "track" or even "monkeys.yourdomain.com".
If you do already have an existing website on the domain with "www" as the subdomain, do NOT also use it here as that will break your site. So if you already have the "www" subdomain working for your website, use another subdomain like "track" instead for example.
After you do that, you need to add a CNAME record in your domain provider DNS settings for your domain and point it to Unbounce.
So if your subdomain was "www", you need to create a CNAME record with "www" as the hostname, and then the Unbounce URL they provide you as the value.
Simply copy and paste the string of URL they give you into the "value" field and confirm your selection.
Once you do that, click on confirm, and your domain may say "configuring".
It can take anywhere from a few seconds to 24 hours for the settings to save, so don't worry if it doesn't work immediately.
After your domain is configured and propagated, you will see a green checkmark saying the domain is "working and secure" - that's where you want to be.
You can also click the little switch above the domains to "on" so that whenever the "http" (unsecure) version of your website is clicked on, it gets immediately redirected to the secure version. You get a free SSL certificate by setting up the domain with Unbounce!
Last but not least, you need to go to your page that you created, and "change" the URL to the new custom domain you set up. The cool thing is that you don't need to have a path with this domain, and can simply have the pure domain point to your landing page (unlike in ClickFunnels where you do need a path).
But that's it, congrats on setting up your custom domain!
