The definitions of different forms of learning, issued in 2012 by UNESCO, provide a refreshed view of the role of designers. Whereas previously the binary notions of formal and informal were ubiquitous, and are still used frequently, the new definitions of formal, non-formal, informal and incidental provide new insights. The first three of these are all intentional forms of learning. Informal learning is still intentional; it is simply without a defined curriculum.
