In this recipe, we will prepare köftes, make homemade fried potatoes, and make a delicious sauce; then, we'll lay the fried meatballs and potatoes in that sauce and cook it all together.

Ingredients
For the köftes:
400 g ground beef
1 onion 🧅
1 clove garlic 🧄
1 egg 🥚
3 tablespoons breadcrumbs (30-35 g)
1 or 1.5 teaspoons salt (to your liking)
2 teaspoon cumin
2 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoon thyme (optional)
1 teaspoon paprika powder (optional)
For vegetables:
3 large potatoes (500-600 g) 🥔
1 green bell pepper (other bell peppers are also okay:) ) 🫑
2 tomatoes 🍅
For the sauce:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon tomato paste
1/2 canned tomato (200 g) 🥫 or 3 grated tomatoes🍅
1.5 cups hot water (300 ml)
1/2 teaspoon salt
To fry:
About 1/2 cups sunflower oil 🌻
---
For Köftes:
Place all the köfte ingredients into a bowl and mix well, then add the ground meat and knead well for a few minutes until all combine.
Take a walnut size of the mixture (about two tablespoons) and roll it into a ball in your hands. Keep doing this until you end up with 13 köftes. Let the köftes rest for at least 15 minutes in the refrigerator.
For the veggies:
Peel the skin of the potatoes and cut them into wedges.
Wash and cut the pepper into slices.
Cut the tomatoes into quarters.
Lightly salt the potatoes and pepper, and dry them off.
For frying:
Place the pan over medium-high heat and bring the oil to frying temperature.
First, fry the potatoes, then the köftes, and finally, fry the pepper.
For the tomato sauce:
Cook the tomato paste in olive oil; then add the crushed tomatoes and keep cooking for a few minutes.
Pour the water, bring the mixture to a boil, and simmer for 8-10 minutes.
The final step:
Place the köftes, fried potatoes, and pepper nicely in a pan or a baking tray.
Pour the tomato sauce over them and put it in the oven.
Bake with the lid on for 5 minutes.
Take the lid off and bake until the tomatoes get softened.
And your İzmir Köfte is ready.
Decorate it with chopped parsley.
Serve warm with pilaf and a spoon of plain yogurt.
