BRITISH tourists will face more expensive holidays if we crash out of the EU without a deal, the Government admitted today.
The cost of using your card in Europe "will likely increase", according to a new set of documents on the No Deal scenario.
Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab published the 25 papers in order to show that Britain can thrive even if we leave the EU without signing a deal with Brussels.
They contain advice to firms on how to protect themselves from short-term disruption if No Deal does come to pass.
In the document on financial services, officials say they will allow European companies to continue operating in Britain for at least three years on the same terms as now.
But they also admit there will be a knock-on effect if the EU doesn't guarantee the same arrangements for British banks, the paper says.
It reads: "The cost of card payments between the UK and EU will likely increase, and these cross-border payments will no longer be covered by the surcharging ban."
That means payment companies will have the right to charge consumers extra fees for using credit cards or other specific forms of payment.
The documents - dubbed "technical notices" by ministers - also show that even in a No Deal scenario, the Government will seek to strike a series of limited mini-deals to stop trade between Britain and Europe grinding to a half altogether.
And firms were advised to employ a customs broker to help them do business in Europe and negotiate new border checks between Britain and the continent.
Despite today's announcements, Mr Raab said he is confident that he'll be able to strike a comprehensive deal with the EU over the next few months...
