Ketamine is a time-tested medication which has been found to hold great promise for treating severe depression, bipolar, and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Klarisana has been offering outpatient ketamine infusion therapy in San Antonio since 2015. We recognized early on that the context in which ketamine is delivered and the experience that a patient has are critical to maximizing the chances for success. When choosing a center to receive ketamine infusions here are two important factors to consider…
Will I be in a private room? Some offices try to cut costs by having several patients all getting infusions in the same space. A ketamine infusion is a very personal, spiritual, and mind-expanding journey. Having several other patients receiving ketamine in the same room can be extremely counterproductive.
Will I have one staff member assigned to help guide me through my infusion? At Klarisana we have a one-to-one staffing model. It costs more to do this but we feel it is essential. You will have one of our staff in the room with you during your infusion to guide you through the process and help you feel at ease. Ketamine produces a very powerful experiential response with alterations in perception and thought processes. Far from being a side effect, we feel that this is an important part of the way in which ketamine works. That being said it is important to have a trained staff member at your side to help put you at ease so that you may have the most productive experience possible. There are several centers around the country that try to cut costs by either having their patients infuse alone or by trying to use video cameras in the room so that a single staff member can monitor patients remotely. We would definitely recommend against this video camera model. This could create an Orwellian ambiance which could also be very counterproductive to the therapeutic experience.
