In a fishing dispute, the UK is contemplating suing France.
In the wake of Boris Johndon's claim that France had violated Brexit trade agreement provisions, he refused to rule out using the dispute mechanism clause.
European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen told French Prime Minister Jean Castex that the UK should be demonstrated that "leaving the EU does more harm than staying in," which Lord Frost blasted as "utter nonsense."
'To see it presented in this manner is plainly extremely worrisome and troublesome in the current environment when we are seeking to settle many very sensitive problems, particularly on the Northern Ireland Protocol,' the Conservative Lord said in a series of tweets.
Prime Minister Johnson expressed concern that Paris may be about to break, or has already breached, the free trade agreement, and kept the option of escalating the situation open.
When asked by Sky News ahead of his G20 summit in Rome if he was ruling out using the deal's dispute settlement mechanism, Mr Johnson responded: 'Of course not. That is something I haven't ruled out.'
As part of his ‘credibility' assessment, French President Emmanuel Macron accused the UK of not honouring its Brexit promises on fishing.
France has threatened to stop British boats from entering its ports and to increase vessel inspections if a dispute over the absence of licenses for small French fishing vessels in British seas is not addressed by Tuesday.
The fishing dispute erupted this week when French officials accused a scallop dredger registered in Scotland of fishing without a license.
During the diplomatic storm, the captain of the Cornelis Gert Jan vessel, who is believed to be an Irish person, was imprisoned at Le Havre.
In an unprecedented move on Friday afternoon, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss ordered France's ambassador to the Foreign Office to confront her on the country's position.
In the event that France refuses to budge, the ministers have vowed retaliatory measures.
Licenses for small boats are at issue since they may only be awarded if the boat has a history of fishing in British waters.
