Kostroma is one of the oldest towns of Russia founded in 1152 by Prince Yuri Dolgorukiy (Yuri Long-handed). He is also the founder of Moscow (1147) and Pereslavl-Zalesskiy (1152).
It is located in 370km North-West from Moscow, Russia on the interstate Moscow-Arkhangelsk. It is also to come to Kostroma from Yaroslavsky railway station of Moscow.
Kostroma is founded on the bank of Volga river where it is connecting with Kostroma river. So, the town is most probably named after this local river.
In 1613, exactly in Ipatievsky Monastery of Kostroma, the first Russian Tsar of Romanov dynasty, Mikhail Fedorovich, was invited for a throne of Russia.
Mikhail Fedorovich is a father of Alexei Mikhailovich, and grandfather of Peter I (Peter The Great).
