An ambulance dashed away from the scene of an assassination attempt in Iraq on Monday.
A bomb planted inside municipal offices killed at least ten people and injured Iraq's Shiite vice president, Adel Abdul-Mahdi.
The bomb, possibly hidden in the podium, went off minutes after Mahdi finished making a welcoming address.
He was bruised and hospitalized for medical exams, an aide said.
The attack sent another message that suspected Sunni militants could strike anywhere despite the security crackdown across the capital.
Meanwhile, Iraqi president Jalal Talabani (jahl-LAHL' tahl-ah-BAH'-nee) is in stable condition at Jordanian hospital.
UPSOUND: Ambassador
Iraq's ambassador says Talabani is recuperating from exhaustion and lung inflammation at an Amman hospital.
He fell ill on Sunday and was unconscious when he was rushed to a hospital, but was later flown to neighboring Jordan for an extensive examination.
