1. Thinking meditation can solve everything
Although meditation is a very useful practice, its effectiveness can depend entirely on your genetics, personality type and environment. Also, your circumstances may be a factor as well. If you live in a war zone, are dealing with sexual abuse, or are suffering from a physical health problem, meditation may do very little for you. Although I encourage everyone to try it, it may not always be the answer.
2. “Good vibes only”
It isn’t logical to only spend time around people who have good vibes. Often, having to associate with lower conscious people is a test of your patience, compassion and understanding.
3. Thinking you don’t need anything or anyone
It’s easy for the spiritual ego to grow when we’re on this path. It may lead us to believe we’re above everyone else. You may want to disconnect from certain people, but be careful not to close yourself off to everyone entirely.
4. Being overly compassionate and empathetic
Trying to save the world and help everyone is an easy trap that many of us fall into. Although our intentions are noble, this can often do more harm than good. It can result in us often sacrificing our own needs for others. You don’t need to save everyone. Stay focused on your own awakening and help those who come into your life.
5. Chasing awakening as this crazy mystical experience you’ll have in the future
A spiritual awakening is basically the realization that this present moment is all that exists, and everything in this moment is perfect. If you’re too hyper-focused on reaching some future goal, it defeats the whole purpose. Try to change your perception and understand that you are everything you are seeking.
