While I was working on my custom brake fabrication I found Cronetec. They sell CNC manufactured brake conversion parts for first gen YFS200 Blasters (88-02).
This kit is awesome really. No welding needed and no grinding if you don't want to with a second left side footpeg. It can be installed in a few hours or faster once you know what you're doing.
Having searched for solutions to convert a cable pull rear brake system to hydraulic and built my own conversion previously I really wanted to try this kit. Plus this system will work with the original carrier housing. No need to search out an expensive second gent (03-06) carrier for a swap.
The Quad: This kit will work with Blasters from 1988 to 2002. (Gen 1 Blasters) In this video is my 2001.
The parts I used are from Cronetec: [ Ссылка ]
Update: The full kit is available these days. With that you don't need to search out the parts below. Just bolt and go. Keep it up Cronetec! This is simply an awesome way to get more out of my Blaster.
Cronetec is currently offering a 'Trio' pack which is all the parts I ordered. [ Ссылка ]. the parts are: Master Bracket, Pedal Adapter and Caliper Bracket.
Other items you'll need:
- Rotor and rotor hub for an 88-02 Blaster from Ebay if you don't still have it. (They are different than an 03-06 but you can convert a newer one to work.)
- Brake pedal. I used a Yamaha Warrior pedal which is easy to find on Ebay but the ideal is a Second Gen Blaster pedal. (03-06). These are tougher to find. I had to go for OEM at Partszilla.com for one. If you use a Warrior pedal you'll need to make some simple linkage. Yamaha part is: Yamaha PEDAL, BRAKE Part # 5VM-27211-10-00
Caliper - I used a caliper for an '04 Yamaha Raptor 660. Linked here [ Ссылка ]. Make sure you get some hydraulic line. The factory lines from the Raptor are what I used. They are a bit long. Ideal length would be 50cm or roughly 20in.
- Another left side foot rest unless you want to grind and cut your existing right foot rest to remove the pedal mount and boot guard. This was an Ebay search as I didn't want to cut into the one I had incase I reused it.
