Review Kizlyar Supreme Sturm, fixed blade in AUS8 stainless; Full tang construction, trailing/drop point; flat grind tactical/Utility Camp knife. MADE IN RUSSIA.
Here I review this great, super tough fixed blade, the STURM (that's German for Storm) from Kizlyar Supreme. Field tested on seasoned hardwoods in the Australian bush and rain forest.
There is a shallow beveled cutting edge and whilst this may not suit everyone, it allows the edge of the STURM to take a beating. Of course it also allows easy custom profiling of this razor sharp factory edge. The tip is strong, (I bored it into Eucalyptus hardwoods) the scabbard which is exceptionally designed, allowing easy insertion and deployment silently and or insert/carry safely in any position, along with multiple tie down points that can be effected by webbing straps.
The Sturm features Kizlyar Supreme's ergonomic designed grip with Kraton and ABS handle scales, providing a safe and secure tactile grip in any weather conditions. AUS8 has already proven itself and Kizlyar Supreme's heat treatment of this well-known alloy speaks for itself.
I'm a big fan of using military style knives for regular camping to hardcore camping and wilderness trips, simply because these types of knives (and the STURM is no exception) can take a beating, remain sharp, and dependable over rough terrain with little chance of loosing your knife. I'm not a steel snob and AUS8 works fine if properly heat treated and it's tough too with significant percentages of Vanadium present in this stainless high carbon alloy.
The Sturm despite coming under the banner of "Tactical" is completely at home for taking camping and hiking as a medium sized fixed blade knife that will be good for hunting and prepping fires and camp kitchen chores and it's not too heavy, weighing in at only 242grams (knife only) that's just about 8.5 Oz!
I've had my eye on this knife for quite a while and i'm only impressed.
Stay tuned, as I'll be doing the usual follow ups on my Kizlyar Supreme Sturm over the coming months.
