China says it opposes the United States' "Cold War mentality" and zero-sum games, in response to US President Joe Biden's new National Security Strategy. China features heavily in the 48-page document. It lays down US' plans to counter China's rising influence, as well as contain Russia. The document also describes Washington's competition with Beijing as the nation's "most consequential geopolitical challenge". This comes ahead of a key congress of China's ruling Communist Party, where Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to secure a third leadership term.
