HOW TO PAINT WICKER BASKETS | SPRAY PAINT AND CHALKPAINT
In this DIY tutorial, we will walk through how you can easily spray paint and chalk paint your baskets.
SUPPLIES
Spray-painted basket:
Basket (new or old baskets)
Dry paint brush for dusting (unless it needs to be washed)
Spray paint in matte finish
Chalk painted baskets:
Basket
Dry paint brush for dusting (unless it needs to be washed)
Chalk paint (I used Dixie Belle color cotton)
Artist paint brush
Dropcloth
INSTRUCTION:
Spray paint basket:
1. Begin by dusting the basket off with a dry paintbrush.
2. Spray paint the inside first and then the outside.
3. Let the basket dry for 5 minutes between coats. It is better to apply thin coats over and over than try to apply one heavy coat.
4. Let the basket dry for 30 minutes before using the basket
Chalk paint baskets:
1. Begin by cleaning the basket.
2. Then paint chalk paint to the inside and then the outside. I only used one coat of chalk paint for a thick chalk-washed look.
3. Let the paint dry on both techniques for 30 minutes before using the basket.
If your paint seems to be dragging when you paint across the wicker simply add a little water to your paintbrush.
